A doorbell camera alerted a homeowner in Fairfield, California to movement by the front door, but it was 2 AM. It wasn’t a Girl Scout selling cookies or a person offering to give you a discount on pest control . . . actually, it wasn’t a human at all. Much to the homeowner’s surprise, the doorbell cam showed a mountain lion on the front porch.

The Fairfield, CA Police Department shared photos of the cougar to its Facebook page, noting that they’d alerted the appropriate authorities. The department says authorities believe the mountain lion returned to the hills outside the city. Fairfield is in northern California, situated between San Francisco and Sacramento.

“’Excuse me, but can I interest you in some car insurance?”’ jokes the Fairfield, CA Police Department in its Facebook post sharing the doorbell-cam photos. “A citizen on Orchid Street contacted police today to notify us of a strange late night/early morning visitor—one who either clearly disregarded their ‘No Soliciting’ sign, or had an earnest desire to make new friends. Whatever the reason for the 2 am doorbell ring, the visitor’s hopes were unfortunately dashed as the homeowner’s thought it best not to answer the door.”
