New Zealand Bar Gets A Surprise Visitor

A bar in New Zealand is sure to never forget this special guest. While many bars remember drunk patrons, or celebrities who stop in this bar get a different sort of surprise. Rather than a person, a little seal hopped its way into the bar. Not only did it make its way around the bar, but it stole everyone’s hearts along the way.

The Sprig + Fern Meadows in Richmond, New Zealand, has gone viral after posting some surveillance footage. However, it is not because they caught a bar fight or anything scandalous on camera. On the contrary, they captured something rather adorable.

The footage, which they later shared on social media, showed a seal pup as it made its way through the entire bar. The beginning of the footage shows the seal entering the bar and immediately dashing under a table. This all happens to the Mission Impossible theme music, I might add.

Afterward, one of the bar’s patrons notices the seal and decides to approach it. The seal is uninterested in his friendship and dashes off to visit other tables. Co-owner Bella Evans spoke to the Associated Press about the surprise visitor. She admitted that initially she thought it was a dog, as the bar is pet-friendly.

However, upon closer inspection, she realized the New Zealand bar had unknowingly welcomed a seal into their establishment.

What Happens Next

The patron who first spotted the surprise visitor tried to help the seal. He grabbed his jacket and tried to usher it outside, but it was to no avail. The little guy got spooked and ended up hiding in the bathroom next to the toilet.

Eventually, one individual did manage to catch the seal. They enlisted the help of another bar patron, who had gone home and gotten a dog crate to help transport the surprise visitor out of the New Zealand bar.

They even snuck in some bar food to help lure the critter in. The video later showed the seal inside the crate being transported into a vehicle. That vehicle had the Department of Conservation (New Zealand) logo on it.
