An open-ocean paddleboarder named Bill Clements is in it for the marine life. He loves a good wildlife moment, but even he was taken aback when he came across a pod of Risso’s dolphins that appeared to glow underwater. The dolphins swam under the paddleboarder and alongside him as he paddled off Dana Point Harbor in Southern California, south of Laguna Beach.

“Look at how these Risso’s dolphins glow beneath the surface,” Clements wrote in his Instagram caption. “So rad!”
At times, Clements seems giddy about being so close to the beautiful animals. Risso’s dolphins don’t actually glow. As calves, they start out with dark-gray bodies, but their coloring lightens with age. Adults are often pale gray and appear white beneath the surface of the water.
