Thoren “Thor” Bradley says there are some solid reasons to always carry tampons in your pack, whether you’re hunting, camping, hiking, or putting together a go bag. And he explains why in a recent Instagram video with well over 50,000 likes. Some of Bradley’s most popular videos show him splitting logs, but this one is more educational.

Bradley’s suggested uses for tampons out in the wilderness range from using the cotton to start a fire in an emergency situation to using them to stop bleeding from an external wound in a pinch (though he makes it clear in his caption that you should still carry proper wound care supplies). He demonstrates a couple of his suggested uses in the short video.
