Red Bull Rampage Athletes Share Updates After Gnarly Falls

Footage of Emil Johansson’s and Adolf Silva’s scary falls at this year’s Red Bull Rampage keep disappearing online (and popping up somewhere else), but Johansson and Silva themselves have now shared updates on their health after their rough runs at the annual freeride mountain bike competition in Virgin, Utah.

Live viewers were stunned when one of Johansson’s mid-air tricks went awry and he flew off his bike, landing hard and tumbling part-way down a cliffside. Also during the competition, Silva was having a solid run when a flip trick went bad, and he landed head first in the dirt. Both men survived and have updated their online communities within the past few days.

Social Media Updates

“bad end to my day at rampage yesterday, thankful to be alive in one piece & doing ok considering the circumstances,” wrote Johansson in his Instagram post. “scary situation tumbling down trying to grab everything in my way to slow down . . . was lucky to finally make the slide stop before I fell of another edge. [. . .] My right leg looked really ugly & I was unable to move from the spot without severe pain . . . Massive thanks to the medical team for getting me out of there is the best way possible!!”

Meanwhile, Silva wrote: “After this first day in the hospital I want to thank everyone for their thoughts overnight. I do have a lower back injury and my focus is on my recovery. [It’s] great to have my family here and feel all the support from all of you guys.”
