The sudden sounds of screams and howls left one San Diego neighborhood confused and alarmed. Home-security footage reveals the culprits. Turns out, a pack of coyotes had gathered in someone’s front yard and began yipping and screeching all at once.

ABC News shared the footage on social media, saying the coyotes’ unnerving noises “scared” the residents. Wild coyotes howl to communicate with each other, establish their territory, and intimidate threats. While it’s unclear what these coyotes hoped to accomplish on a residential street in San Diego, they surely accomplished waking a few people up with a jolt.
