Have you ever wondered what a bison sounds like up close? Yellowstone Guidelines, a company that offers wildlife tours, day hikes, and sightseeing trips in Yellowstone National Park, shared a video of a bison way up close so we all don’t have to risk it. (Hopefully they were using a long lens to get this video.)

The bison in the video sticks out its tongue as it makes its reverberating, growly sound. It even swivels its head toward the camera as it utters this creepy noise.
“Want to see a 2000 lb mammal raging with testosterone?” asked Yellowstone Guidelines in its post sharing the video. “Come to @yellowstonenps and watch the bison rut.”
As if we didn’t already know bison are not fluffy cows, this growl is further proof that visitors should not pet them. Keep your distance and enjoy them from afar.
