Have you heard of the desert rain frog? It’s a cute, strange little frog that looks like a puff ball with eyes and legs. And just wait until it opens its mouth. One might expect a frog to make a sound like “ribbit,” but not this frog. The desert rain frog sounds more like a squeaky toy you might give your dog to play with. But it’s one thing to say the frog’s sound is funny, and it’s another thing entirely to actually hear the sound coming from this strange little creature’s face.

Ranger Rick Magazines recently shared a video of the frog doing its thing on Instagram. The animal lives along the western coast of southern Africa on sandy seashores. They dig into the sand to help them survive periods without much rain. They make their distinctive squeaking sound to find mates.
