STABILicers Maxx: Review

We’ve tried out just about every slip-on ice cleat there is here at 50 Campfires. What we’ve found is that there are ice cleats for any type of activity you’re involved in. The STABILIcers Maxx are cleats that can actually compete with a basic crampon because they’re so rugged. Let’s take a closer look at the features.

Functionality: They feature 34 case hardened screws that bite into the ice with ease. We particularly liked the fact that the screws are easily replaceable. They even offer brass screws for fuel delivery people. The soles themselves are formed to offer more traction as well, in addition to the screws.

Ease of Use: Very easy to put on, and the front strap has two different positions that can be adjusted based on boot size. The screws are also easy to replace if need be.

Durability: This is one of the main reasons that STABILicers Maxx are so popular – they’re built like a tank. People have used the same pair for over 10 years.

Value: Given that they last for many years, $51.95 seems to be a good value.

Weight: The STABILicers Maxx aren’t light. That’s perhaps the only downside of them. A large pair weighs just over a pound. If you’re looking for something lighter you might want to take a look at their Walk or Hike models.
