“The King has spent time at Shenandoah National Park in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains and Appalachian Highlands,” wrote The Royal Family in an Instagram post. “The Blue Ridge Mountains are among the oldest in the world and the Appalachian Highlands were, remarkably, once connected to the Scottish Highlands as part of a single mountain chain.”

During his time at the park, the King reportedly greeted and chatted with National Park Service staff, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service historians, leaders of the Monacan Indian Nation, and Junior Rangers. King Charles also met an ambassador animal, Buddy the bald eagle.
