Three Nevada Hikers Make Gruesome Discovery

Three hikers went off trail this week near the South Yuba Fork Bridge in Nevada, and they made a gruesome discovery: a human skull and other skeletal remains. The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office confirms that the hikers discovered the remains of an unidentified individual who died of unknown causes.

“The hikers had cut their own trail in the brush and traveled through rugged terrain when they came across a suspected human skull and immediately hiked to the South Yuba Fork
Bridge to call 911 where an emergency phone is installed,” wrote the Sheriff’s Office in a press release. “Deputies of the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) responded to the bridge and met up with the hikers in the early evening, one of whom led the deputies on their man-cut trail to the remains. NCSO deputies confirmed the skull was in fact human and located additional skeletal remains.”

Officials retrieved the remains and are in the process of attempting to identify them and narrow down a cause of death.
