Trail Cam Captures Photos of Curious Mountain Lion in Nevada

Retired wildlife biologist John Axtell captures some wonderful images from his trail cameras set up in the wilds surrounding Carson City, Nevada. Mountain lions are one of the charismatic animals his cameras sometimes catch as they meander by. Every once in a while, though, a mountain lion becomes curious about a trail cam, and the animal sticks around long enough for the camera to capture some truly great images.

Axtell recently shared some fun mountain-lion photos to the Facebook group Trail Camera Photos and Videos. He frequently shares trail-cam images of bears, bobcats, birds of prey, deer, and more to the group’s page. He says most mountain lions don’t get as close to the cameras as this one did.

“Less than half of the mountain lions maybe a 1/3 actually sniff the camera, the rest either completely ignore it or just look at it for a second or two,” Axtell wrote in his post. “This one approached the camera at least three times.”

Local news sources shared Axtell’s photos as well, delighting locals and non-locals alike.
