The National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP) recently announced a rare finding in the waters of the Loreto Bay National Park—an albino blue whale. Blue whales (Balaenoptera musculus) are the largest animals in the world, growing up to 100 feet long.

CONAP shared photos of the back of the rare white whale on Instagram, saying: “This represents an unprecedented milestone for marine biology and the conservation of this cetacean in Mexico.”
Though not the first blue whale ever spotted with this coloration, this whale is certainly a rare and exciting sight.
