WATCH: Crocodile vs. Alligator in Everglades National Park

Which crocodilian species would win in a battle between an American crocodile and an American alligator? One visitor to Everglades National Park in Florida got to see this battle firsthand. In fact, south Florida is the only place in the world where alligators and crocodiles co-exist, making this encounter pretty rare.

Fox 13 News shared the video from Taylor Bonachea on its Instagram page, saying the battle occurred near the Shark Valley Observation Tower inside the park. The video shows a crocodile (the larger of the two animals) and an alligator battling it out over territory. Each animal gets in some good shots, but one slinks away in the end.

Though very similar, there are some tell-tale differences between these two large reptiles. Crocodiles have a V-shaped snout, while alligators have a more rounded, U-shaped snout. When its mouth is closed, you can still see a crocodile’s top and bottom teeth, but you can’t see an alligator’s bottom teeth when its jaw is shut.
