Six years ago, Mike Loughran stumbled upon a group of newborn coyote puppies in a hollow tree, and he’s still not over the experience. Loughran recently reshared his footage from that fateful day, along with a video telling the whole story.

Loughran explains that he was moving between fishing spots and went to duck under a fallen tree, when, suddenly, a female coyote darted out from the hollow tree, bared her teeth in warning, and then darted away. When Loughran went back to the site, he peeked inside the base of the hollow tree and found a den full of newborn puppies.
The mother coyote moved her pups that night, and he never saw them again. However, Loughran says that moment has never left him and is still the coolest thing he’s ever seen in the outdoors.
