WATCH: Lion Climbs on Tourist’s Vehicle in South Africa

A video from South Africa shows three large lions inspecting a tourist’s vehicle during some sort of immersive “safari” experience (more on that below). One lion takes it a step farther and climbs on top of the vehicle, forcing the driver to back up and try to get the car (and all the people inside the car) to safety while also trying not to harm or aggravate the lions.

The Big Cats Empire shared the video on Instagram, crediting Ronel Steyn, who has a private account. Many people in the comments section believe this place (which isn’t named) must be a lion park, where lions are enclosed for tourists to view as they drive through.

Several folks commented saying they don’t believe this sort of experience is ethical, and that this behavior is pretty common in places that offer drive-through safaris.

“This happened to us as well at this park,” shared one person. “I will not ever be returning to this place. So this looks like it’s then a normal and regular thing that happens at this park.”

Another person wrote: “These are not wild lions [. . .]. Places like this are also totally irresponsible in enabling this behavior. Unethical.”
