A small dog is lucky to be alive after a cougar snatched it just feet from its owners’ front door. A couple living near Bellingham, Washington, had let their dog outside onto the porch when, suddenly, they heard a whimper as a mountain lion grabbed the dog in its mouth and started walking away.

One of the dog’s owners jumped into action. He ran out of the house and chased the mountain lion up a tree. Thankfully, the big cat dropped the dog before it made the leap.
Denise Buchanan says she and her husband then rushed their dog to the animal hospital, fearing for its life. She says all of this happened in broad daylight. Local news shared the Buchanan family’s security-camera footage on Instagram.
