A popular video on social media shows a woman walking through the woods and spotting a mountain lion from quite a distance away. With her phone camera zoomed to 8x, you can clearly see the wild cat lying down and staring at her through the trees. When she zooms back out, though, it’s very difficult to see, and it’s impressive that she spotted it with the naked eye.

“3 hours ago!!! What an honor,” wrote Monica Maragos in her Instagram post sharing the video of the calm encounter.
In the footage, she says things like, “Finally! I’ve been wanting to see you for a while,” and “Hi, beautiful!”
Maragos says she and the mountain lion stared at each other for a minute or so before she took a couple steps forward, prompting the cat to move on.
