I have to admit, I didn’t fully realize that water buffalo could swim underwater like the most massive, terrifying water creature from my nightmares. A viral video showing a TikToker reacting to footage of a water buffalo swimming in a murky body of water, completely submerged, with creepy music playing in the background also had me reeling.

Jordan Howlett is the social media personality who shared the water buffalo video, and he doesn’t provide any additional context about the original footage. He does share his thoughts about this massive horned animal slinking around in low-visibility water, and I totally agree. It’s super creepy.

Howlett suggests water buffalo can stay submerged for up to five minutes. Even more troubling, he says they can swim up to 30 miles per hour.
