A common strategy for scaring off a bear that’s venturing a little too close is to make loud noises. One woman is going viral for her “hilarious” screams when she realizes there’s a bear approaching her and her dog. Thankfully, her strategy works; the bear does not seem to want anything to do with the wild screaming noise coming out of her.

“When in doubt, scream it out? One person had an interesting way to deter a bear from attacking her and her dog,” wrote the New York Post in an Instagram post sharing Jaylie Howell’s video.
It seems like Howell’s dog ran off trail and its leash became tangled in branches, forcing Howell to go up into the brush to free the dog. That’s when she spotted a bear in the distance and began her crazed screaming. At one point, she screams at her mom to warn her about the bear.
Several people in the comments section defend the woman’s reaction.
“Yo, after I encountered a cougar in the wild, I will never judge how people react to wild animals,” commented one person. “I’m glad no one was around filming me haha lots of ‘GET! GO! GET OUT OF HERE!!! HEELLLLPPPP!!!!’ With a country accent.”
