Yosemite BASE Jumper Gets Caught, Claims Video Was Fake

During the government shutdown last fall, multiple people took the opportunity to BASE jump in Yosemite National Park, even though it is illegal. Several people posted videos of themselves doing it, and some of them got caught.

Jack Propeck had a video posted to his Instagram account showing him BASE jumping from Glacier Point on October 8, 2025, but when officials tracked him down, he took the video down, claiming it was fake.

SFGATE reports that someone tipped off a Yosemite park ranger about Propeck’s supposed jump. The tip included screenshots from his now-removed Instagram post, which did briefly show his face. However, Propeck claims he used artificial intelligence to superimpose his face onto another BASE jumper’s body to make the video.
