A wildlife photographer captured a series of moments that beautifully illustrate the bond between a cub and its mother. In one portrait in particular, a mountain lion cub in Patagonia’s Torres del Paine National Park looks up at its mother, eyes filled with wonder, as the mother looks resolutely ahead. It’s hard to describe in words how stunning the photo is.

The photographer is Rodrigo Ahumada Zeidan. He posted the first of his incredible photos of a mountain lion mother and cub in Torres del Paine back in 2021.
“Tremendous weekend, full of encounters with these amazing felines of our land,” Zeidan wrote on his original post (translated here to English). “Lots of moments and photos coming out these next few days, but I wanted to share this one, with one of my favorite moments, both by the light and the scene itself. Truly a privilege to have been able to . . . behold this tremendous animal.”
Since his initial post, Zeidan has shared several more touching photos of the same mountain lion and her cubs. Mountain lions, also called cougars and pumas, live throughout Patagonia, a vast region in South America that encompasses parts of Argentina and Chile. There is a particularly big concentration of pumas in Chile’s Torres del Paine.
