Extremely Rare ‘Golden’ Croc Delights People on Wildlife Tour

Western Cape Eco Tours has a secret, and if you book a wildlife tour with them next time you’re in Australia, you might get in on it. The secret is the location of an extremely rare golden croc, which tour operators call “Casper.” For years, Western Cape Eco Tours has been taking tourists to see Casper, a leucistic saltwater crocodile.

The tour company owner, Malcolm Slack, told Yahoo News that they recently had a scare. They thought Casper may have died by the jaws of another crocodile, thanks to some rumors floating around town.

“We hadn’t seen the little fella for about three weeks,” Slack said. “Then a couple of days ago he turned up out of the blue.”

Slack and his customers were thrilled to see the rare crocodile on tours once more.

“Wildlife tours have been fantastic this week!” Western Cape Eco Tours wrote in a Facebook post sharing photos of the golden croc. “Check out this unique crocodile we have been seeing lately. Nothing better than a low tide wildlife tour to be able to check out some of the locals.”

Slack says he’s lived in the area for over 20 years and this is the only crocodile he’s seen with such unique coloring.
