In the video, a mother bobcat walks alongside the side of the road along with four bobcat kittens. One baby bobcat becomes enthralled with a feather blowing down the road and quickly gives chase. Eventually, the little cat gives up and rejoins its family that has waited patiently for the bobkitten.
The video comes from Kathleen Ash, who appears to have filmed the event from her car.
“Social media may be wild, but this baby bobcat takes the crown,” said the caption on the post.
Bobcats are found throughout the U.S., and onlookers often confuse them for both house cats and cougars. However, the animal falls somewhere in between the two. Full-grown bobcats can weigh between nine and 33 pounds, and stand between a foot and a half and two feet tall.
Female bobcats have between one and six kittens. At five months old, a baby bobcat will begin hunting with its mother. And a few months after that, they’ll cut ties altogether. Much like their larger cousin, the mountain lion, bobcats are solitary creatures that often claim a territory. However, a bobcat’s territory is usually much smaller, with males only claiming about ten square miles and females living in about a one-mile radius. They really only leave that area to find a mate.
Due to their small size, they primarily hunt small animals, such as birds, mice, and rabbits. However, if given the opportunity, they will eat roadkill like deer.
