Last summer, the Dragon Bravo Fire ravaged parts of Grand Canyon National Park between July 4 and September 29, 2025. The wildfire leveled the historic Grand Canyon Lodge and burned 145,504 acres. Now, the park is announcing it will reopen the North Rim of the Grand Canyon to visitors, starting Friday, May 15, 2026.

“All paved roadways within the park will reopen, including Highway 67, Cape Royal, and Point Imperial Roads,” wrote Grand Canyon National Park in a press release. “These scenic drives provide access to many of the North Rim’s iconic viewpoints, including Point Imperial, Cape Royal, Roosevelt Point, Walhalla Overlook, and Angels Window.”

What’s more, the park says the entire North Kaibab Trail will reopen to foot traffic on May 15 (stock use is suspended for the season). The Cottonwood Campground will also open that day, and park officials expect to reopen the North Rim Campground as soon as weather conditions allow.
Please note that trail maintenance and rehabilitation work will continue throughout the 2026 season. “Hikers should anticipate temporary trail closures or delays while crews continue to repair the trail,” the press release says. “Post-fire hazards and weather events may also result in additional closures.”
