Internet-famous bald eagles Jackie and Shadow of California’s Big Bear Valley, are raising this year’s chicks, Luna and Sandy, live on a nest cam run by the Friends of Big Bear Valley (FOBBV). As the young eagles have been preparing to fledge (fly from the nest for the first time), the family’s fans all around the world have been watching and waiting with bated breath. On Monday, Luna fledged, flying to a nearby tree.

FOBBV shared footage of Luna’s exciting milestone on Instagram, and several people in the comments section say the momentous moment made them tear up with happiness.

This event follows the heart-wrenching moment a day before when Sandy was forced into an accidental fledge or “fludge.” Luna tried to jump over his sister, apparently knocking her out of the nest. Thankfully, she didn’t fall to the ground. According to FOBBV’s latest update, she’s still hanging around the family nest and appears to be in good health.
