Shilpi Thakur Varshney didn’t spend eight hours sitting in the snow with a long lens in the Himalayas. But she saw a snow leopard anyway. She was simply in the right place at the right time—crossing a road in Ladakh, a high-altitude territory in northern India—when, suddenly, this rare wild cat crossed right in front of her. Thankfully, she had time to get out her camera and take a video.

“What people spend months trying to see with professional cameras, I got to witness casually strolling across the road,” wrote Varshney in an Instagram post sharing her adventures in Ladakh.
