According to a new study, The Narrows in Utah’s Zion National Park is the U.S.’s most beautiful hike, and it ranks sixth in the world. The top five spots went to four hikes in Europe and one in South America. The second-highest ranking hike in the U.S., was the Mount Rainier Skyline Trail in Washington’s Mount Rainier National Park.

SportsShoes.com conducted the study, which used eye-tracking technology to rank photos of 64 popular hiking trails across the globe by their ability to capture participants’ attention. It’s not clear how the 64 trails were selected for consideration.

Here are the top 10 “most beautiful hikes in the world,” according to this study.
- Calanques de Marseille – Marseille, France
- Plitvice Lakes Trail – Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia
- Lauterbrunnen Valley – Bernese Oberland, Switzerland
- Inca Trail to Machu Picchu – Cusco, Peru
- Bastei Rock Formation – Saxon Switzerland National Park, Germany
- The Narrows – Zion National Park, USA
- Étretat Cliff Walk – Étretat, France
- The Loop – Kalbarri, Australia
- Seven Sisters Cliffs Walk – East Sussex, England
- Causeway Coast Way – County Antrim, Northern Ireland
Two other U.S. hikes made the top 20. Besides The Narrows and the Mount Rainier Skyline Trail, the Kalalau Trail in Kauai, Hawaii, and the Mist Trail in California’s Yosemite National Park also appeared on the list.
