A reptile lover decided to stop and give a rattlesnake a drink from his water bottle. A video of the well-intended deed is gaining attention online.

The man, who goes by loopyoutside on Instagram, frequently shared photos and videos of snakes (and himself interacting with these reptiles). Since rattlesnakes are venomous animals that strike faster than the blink of an eye, he must have been feeling pretty confident the snake wouldn’t bite him as he poured water from a plastic bottle into the snake’s mouth, even though it was rattling—a universal warning sign from this species.

“Sharing some water with a huamantlan rattlesnake (Crotalus scutulatus salvini)!” wrote loopyoutside in his Instagram post sharing the video. “This individual was quite thirsty it seemed as the rains hadn’t hit this area yet, so we figured it’d be beneficial to supply him with a little bit of water before we sent him on his way.”
