‘Front-Row Seat to the Circle of Life’: Bear Hunts in Front of Hikers

Some hikers in Washington’s Mount Rainier National Park got a “front-row seat to the circle of life” when they witnessed a bear hunting down a marmot. The crowd wasn’t thrilled to see the marmot go down, but, as Olga Nesterenko noted in the text overlaid on her video, it’s just the circle of life playing out like it’s supposed to.

“Mount Rainier gave me a real National Geographic moment,” Nesterenko wrote in her post sharing the footage.

Black bears like this one in Rainier are omnivores. Although plants make up most of their diet, they do hunt and eat small animals like marmots when the opportunity aries.
