“They’re all cute and cuddly lookin . . . until they’re not,” wrote Lane, a wildlife photographer, referring to what appears to be an adult male red deer (Cervus elaphus). Lane was in a vehicle in New Zealand observing the stag, which looked chill at first. Eventually, though, the animal decided it wanted them out of there, so it charged. The truck had to gun it to get away in time.

“A reminder to keep a safe distance from wild animal [because] their behavior is unpredictable,” added Lane in his post sharing the footage.

People in the comments section note that the charge wasn’t too unpredictable, considering it’s rut season, and stags tend to be on edge and more aggressive than usual.
