‘A Murder At the End of World’ Is the Latest Psychological Thriller, But Where Was It Filmed?

The newest hit series on Hulu and FX combines a psychological thriller with the feeling of a murder mystery dinner. The show is the latest from Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij, who are best known for their now cult favorite Netflix series, “The OA.” The “Murder At the End of World” brings viewers back into their creative storytelling, but where was it filmed?

The series had three main shooting locations, including scenes in New Jersey, Utah, and Iceland. Filming in Utah is primarily in the show’s flashback scenes, while the New Jersey locations are where the story starts. However, most of the main storyline is in Iceland, where crews filmed on location at many sites. However, none are as iconic as the hotel at the center of the story.

While the show uses plenty of CGI, much of the filming occurred at the Deplar Farm, a remote luxury hotel. While the hotel itself is CGI, the landscape is home to a beautiful stay where you can book a night. However, it is not cheap. Prices start at $3,560 a night.

It’s also not easy to get to. Located on the Troll Peninsula, the area is in the northernmost part of Iceland. The closest city is Akureyri, the country’s largest town outside the Reykjavik region. With a population of fewer than 20,000 people, it’s not exactly a major metro area. Plus, it’s a nearly five-hour drive from Reykjavik—and that time would increase exponentially during a winter snowstorm.

Let’s pretend you can make it all work, though. So what’s it like to stay at Deplar Farm? After all, it was named on Condé Nast Traveler’s Gold List in 2023 as one of the best hotels in the world.

There are plenty of outdoor opportunities, including skiing, fat biking, and kayaking. The area is full of mountains and trails for riders to enjoy, with fat-wheeled bikes to get over snowy terrain. Water fans can enjoy sea kayaking north of the Arctic Circle.

After a long day of exploring the beautiful landscape, back at the lodge, guests can enjoy indoor and outdoor geothermal-heated pools, as well as float tanks and a sauna. Perhaps the real highlight, though, is the Northern Lights, which can often be seen from the area.

Here’s a look at some other filming locations with beautiful outdoor locations.
