Avalanche Hits Climbers at Mount Everest Camp 1 (Video)

Oliver Foran is climbing Mount Everest as part of an attempt to break a world record for the fastest trek from sea level to the summit of Mount Everest. He has cycled over 1,100 kilometers across India and Nepal, trekked 150 km through the Himalayas, and completed an acclimatization climb on Mera Peak. On this last leg of the journey, he’s been pushing closer and closer to the summit of Everest. But Mother Nature had another obstacle in store—an avalanche.

While at Camp 1 (19,900 feet), a major acclimatization stop above Base Camp, Foran and other climbers faced an avalanche, and Foran captured it all on video. The video has since gone viral.

“MASSIVE AVALANCHE ON EVEREST,” wrote Foran in his Instagram post sharing the footage. “On our rotation up Everest at camp 1, @cameramanstan_ and I got smoked in an avalanche coming off the Lhola face next to Mount Everest. We were lucky that we didn’t get hurt and I believe no one else did but da*n was this scary. Mother Nature reminding us who’s boss. Anyway, time to dust ourselves off and continue to Camp 2.”

In the comments section, he wrote: “We’re all good.”
