Durango Police shared a video of an adorable would-be thief—a bear cub that broke into a Colorado restaurant looking for a bite to eat. Believe it or not, a second bear cub showed up at a nearby school, possibly also searching for food. The police department wrote in a Facebook post sharing info on the two bear cubs/burglars, encouraging residents to keep their doors locked.

“When you’re just bear-y hungry and the Yellow Carrot looks like a 5-star spot . . . One cub wandered into the restaurant looking for snacks. Another cub showed up at Mountain Middle School (clearly checking the lunch menu). [Colorado Parks & Wildlife] took both cubs into custody—mama bear never showed. No damage, no injuries—just two little troublemakers with good taste in food. Moral of the story: Bears don’t knock, Durango. Keep those doors, windows & trash secured!”

Though adorable, bears breaking into human establishments is a serious problem. Bears accustomed to finding and eating human food will begin to seek humans out, and they can become aggressive. To reduce human-bear conflicts, it’s important to follow the Durango Police Department’s recommendations when living, camping, or recreating in bear country.
