A lot of wild stories have been told about summiting Mount Kilimanjaro. One guy did it with no legs, another guy with no shirt, and a couple of guys did it while wearing suits, but this week was another first.

British bodybuilder and ex-soldier Mikey Copeland became the first person to climb the highest peak in Africa with a refrigerator strapped to his back. Now, you might be asking yourself why a fridge? And the answer is it’s kind of his thing.

Copeland, who also goes by The Fridge Man, hikes up mountains to raise awareness of suicide and mental health while also promoting physical fitness and the outdoors as part of the solution.

“The fridge is meant to symbolize and be a physical representation of mental health and what is it is like to carry the weight and burden if someone could see how you feel,” Copeland said in a statement.

In an interview with the BBC, Copeland explained that he picked Mount Kilimanjaro because it was the tallest mountain he could climb without the need for equipment or rope.

Copeland said it took him seven days to make the 19,341-foot ascent to reach the “rooftop of Africa.”
