Camping Garrapata State Park in California

The Garrapata State Park is recognized in the state of California as the “unknown Big Sur jewel.” The park is considered to be mysterious, as a number of the hiking trails and the park itself is hidden away from the road. Only individuals who like to go exploring discover this park and all of its magic.

Unfortunately, there are no campsites or campgrounds at Garrapata State Park. The Padre National Forest is the closest free place for individuals to camp. Fortunately, it is only a few miles away from the park.

Amenities in Garrapata State Park

Garrapata State Park features two miles of beachfront, a 50-foot climb to the Pacific Ocean, and several coastal hiking trails. The park is filled with diverse vegetation and dense redwood groves. Unfortunately, the biggest reason why people do not visit Garrapata State Park is that there are not a lot of facilities available in the area.

Things to do in Garrapata State Park

Soberanes Point and the Garrapata Beach are the two main attractions that draw guests to Garrapata State Park. There are only two hiking trails in the Garrapata State Park. The first is the Rocky Ridge Trail and the second is the Soberanes Canyon Trail. For individuals who are looking to stay in the area and are not interested in camping outdoors, the closest hotels are 7 miles away in Carmel or 11 miles away in Monterey.
