The general public likes campsite 12 because it is close to the water, easy to get into and has plenty of space for the kids. My personal favorite is campsite 25. I prefer it because it has a park bench behind it that I could waste my life away sitting on it and watching sunrises and sunsets.
Get To Know Lake Claiborne State Park
When was Lake Claiborne State Park founded? How did it start?
Lake Claiborne State Park officially opened its gates to the public in May 1974. Since its inception, Lake Claiborne State Park has continued to mature. Long range plans since the 1970’s have added many welcoming features. Those early goals and careful management over the years have made our state park one of the premier nature and recreation spots in the north central Louisiana area.
What are the most popular activities in the park?
Lake Claiborne is a pristine clear lake that offers many activities to include recreational boating, fishing and swimming. Lake Claiborne State Park is sitting on the south end of the lake with panoramic views of the beautiful lake. Within the park we offer, hiking, biking, bird watching, a long swimming beach with seasonal marina, day use areas, playground, large meeting room, pavilions, boat launches, kayak and canoe rentals and we have a world class 27 hole disc golf course under construction. We plan to open the course before spring. We also hold monthly Dutch Oven Gatherings and have seasonal interpretive programs.
Where is Lake Claiborne State Park located? What are some other attractions in the area worth checking out?
Lake Claiborne State Park is located in North Louisiana halfway between Shreveport and Monroe near the small historic Town of Homer. We are located nearby several attractions like the Ford Museum, the Boom or Bust scenic byway, Bonnie and Clyde Museum, Bonnie and Clyde Trade Days. We also have wonderful local dining options. We are also an hour from the downtown area of Shreveport Bossier and only 30 minutes from Ruston which have many choices for shopping or dinning.
Which one of those is your favorite?
My favorite park activity is definitely the disc golf course. My favorite local attraction is the local dinning.
What are the campsites and cabins like in the park? Are they more open or secluded?
We have 86 Campsites broken into two areas, many of them with picturesque views of the lake. All campsites have water, electricity, free WiFi, access to a dump station and a bathhouse nearby.
We have 10 Cabins that are in high demand and are favorites among other parks. Each cabin can sleep up to 8 people and come fully stocked. There are two bedrooms one queen size loft overlooking the lake, one with double bunk beds, and a pullout sofa. The kitchen has all appliances and utensils and a dining area. There is an outdoor grill and fire pit. There is a nice wood burning stove in the cabin. Other amenities include, WiFi, satellite tv, playground access, boat house, open back porch, screened in side porch, cypress porch swing by fire pit and all high on the hill overlooking the lake
