Hocking River RV Park in Ohio
Camp Ohio: I’m talking with Beth today. She’s going to tell us about Hocking River RV Park in Ohio. Beth, why don’t you get us started with how long Hocking River RV Park has been there and how it got started?

Beth: The campground has been around I would say about six years. It is owned by the Nazarene Church, and it got started because there’s this beautiful, old piece of property right along the river and it seemed like an ideal place to have a campground. In fact, I think, and I’m being completely honest here, that is the best location of any of the campgrounds in the Hocking Hill area. Most of those campgrounds are at a field. You’re looking at some trees or other campers. All of our sites are on the river, so you’re looking at the river all the time and there’s a lot of people that canoe and kayak down the river, and that makes for a fun time as well.
Camp Ohio: Sounds beautiful. Now, what types of camping do you offer there?
Beth: You can trailer, RV, or tent. I do have a few tent sites available as well.
Camp Ohio: Okay. And what are the most popular activities for the campers?
Beth: Well, we get over three million visitors a year to this area because of the hiking trails. We’re the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain, so Hocking Hills is a region and we are eleven miles from the most popular trailhead; is the Old Man’s Cave that has the upper and lower falls on it, Devil’s Back, and the Old Man’s Cave. And then, from there, you can go a couple miles and go to the Ash Cave Trailhead, Cedar Falls, Conkle’s Hollow, and the Rock House.
Camp Ohio: Okay.
Beth: And then also in the area is the Cantwell Cliffs Trail, which is only probably about five miles away.
Camp Ohio: So it sounds like the Hocking River RV Park is absolutely perfect for any outdoorsman who is into hiking.
Beth: There’s a ton of stuff here. You could walk to the canoe livery. It’s just a quarter mile down the street and at the canoe livery you can rent kayaks, canoes, rafts, and tubes that go down the Hocking River. It takes about two and half hours on the short run. It takes longer on the longer run.
Camp Ohio: Okay.
Beth: So yeah, you’re a couple miles to Lake Logan for fishing and swimming, pontoon boat rental. You’re close to everything. There’s a Kroger three quarters of a mile down the streets. Your restaurants, shopping, but yeah, you’re still – you’re not in a commercialized area at all. And we have horseback riding. We have the zipline. People come from hundreds of miles around to do our zipline. We now have three of them in the area. Canopy tours would be the big one.
Camp Ohio: Okay, two more questions for you, Beth. If you could spend just one hour in the Park, what would you do with your time there?
Beth: I have done that. I’ve spent a whole week there, and the best thing to do is sit by the river and either read a book or fish, or you can swim as well. But that’s what I did.
Camp Ohio: Okay, perfect. And last question: if you could spend just one night in Hocking River RV Park, which specific site would you stay at and why?
Beth: Oh, that’s difficult. I guess I’d stay at 15 because that’s the closest to the shower house.
Camp Ohio: Okay, perfect. Well, thanks for that tip and thank you, Beth, for sharing some of the activities in and around that area and for telling us a little bit more about Hocking River RV Park in Ohio.
Beth: You’re welcome. Thank you.
