‘I Freakin’ Did It!’: ‘Normal-ish’ Woman Skis Solo to South Pole

A self-described “normal-ish” woman has completed an epic feat—skiing from the edge of Antarctica to the geographic South Pole, solo and unsupported. Monet Izabeth completed her 700-mile journey in January, becoming the first American woman to do so. It took her 57 days.

Izabeth recently posted about her South Pole trek, and her video has been viewed over a million times so far. She describes in her Instagram caption that she had “no guides, no resupplies, and no shortcuts.” It was just her, a 250-pound sled, and “700 miles of wind-scoured ice.”

On her journey, Izabeth says she faced whiteouts, ferocious winds, and temperatures down to -40°F/C. Despite all of this, she faced those demons, and she did it. Though Izabeth says she’s not a professional athlete and is relatively new to polar expeditions, she worked hard to complete the goal she’s been dreaming about for three years.

In the video, she hilariously says: “I freakin’ did it!”
