A group of hikers in Washington’s North Cascades National Park came face to face with a mountain goat on the trail. At first, it seemed like the mountain goat was running toward the humans, but it quickly changed its mind. A man who appeared to be leading the group approached the animal with confidence and played a loud sound that spooked the animal off the trail.

Metro to Mountain posted footage of the encounter on Instagram, and some people question whether the man’s actions were necessary.
“Cascade Pass always has goats right there at the intersection going to Sahale. Leave them alone,” wrote one concerned person in the comments section.
