Photographer Hides out for 15 Days to Film Extremely Rare Animal

Elias Kalliola is a wildlife photographer from Finland whose dedication to his craft might border on extreme, considering he recently camped out for over two weeks for a chance to film one of the rarest animals on his continent, the wolverine. Good news, though, it worked. Kalliola got some beautiful photos and footage of this elusive creature.

“I had a beautiful encounter with this wolverine yesterday evening and I’m so thrilled to be back in Eastern Finland wilderness photographing our large predators,” Kalliolia wrote in his Instagram caption. “Wolverines are very rare sight in Europe and only around 1000 wolverines are living in the whole continent. 400 of them are living in Finland and this fellow in the video is one of them.”

Wolverines are related to weasels and minks, and their range also includes parts of North America (they’re rare on this continent, too). Today in the United States, wolverines live in states like Washington, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, and Oregon.

Kalliola also shared some spectacular photos of a wolverine. He told Newsweek that he saw two of these rare animals during his stakeout.
