The Basics . . . But Better

Unless you’re a fan of a public drip dry (you do you), chances are you’re bringing a towel with you to camp. Don’t bring those old, ripped-up towels you no longer use at home, though. Upgrade to a fuzzy, cozy, and extra-large Sea to Summit towel that has a fast drying time, making it a great option for when you’re camping in a humid area. Ladies, you might want to also bring a turbie twist hair towel with you.

Keep your shower gear and toiletries protected and organized by adding items like a toiletry bag and a shower caddy, which will keep everything you need at arm’s length. Be sure you have enough body wash and shampoo for your entire camping trip.

More Items to Elevate Your Showers

Though it may not sound like the most luxurious item to add to your camping gear, shower shoes are a must-have for any public shower situation. (You’ll thank us later.)

Bring along some other home comforts like a bath mat. This will definitely make your shower feel more cozy. You can also put some extra thought into what you choose to clean yourself.  Whether you’re a washcloth fan or love your loofah, just because you’re camping doesn’t mean you have to skimp on the clean.

There’s only so much you can do about the water temperature when you’re at camp, but adding these other items will make the experience more enjoyable—and it will make you less inclined to skip the shower after a long day hiking, exploring, kayaking, and doing other activities.

After the Shower

The time right after you get out of the shower is almost more important than the actual shower, because this is when you finish freshening up. When you’re camping and spending a lot of time outdoors, you may be sweating a lot and feeling warm for most of the day. Grab your first-aid kit and pull out your aloe vera gel. Because of its cooling properties, it’s great for sunburns and for continuing the cool refreshing feeling that comes along with showering.

You should also bring a moisturizer with an SPF to keep your skin soft and protected from the sun, especially if you decide to freshen up in the morning before an outdoor adventure.

If you are a sweaty person, consider some anti-chafing balm and deodorant that will keep you feeling refreshed and comfortable, even on those long days and nights out in the heat.

Showering at camp can be rather uncomfortable, but if you put some thought into the items you bring, you can definitely elevate the experience to more than tolerable.  At the end of the day, you only need the basics, but it’s always good to have a few items that make you feel like the campsite is your home away from home.
