The National Park Service (NPS) announced that search-and-rescue personnel have found the remains of the hiker who has been missing in Arizona’s Grand Canyon National Park since April 28. NPS’s press release confirms that the deceased is Sandarsh Krishna, 26, who would have graduated this month with his Master’s degree from Arizona State University. Local news reports that Krishna had planned a short road trip before finals week, but he never came home.

“On Saturday, May 9, National Park Service personnel recovered a body below the rim near Verkamp’s Visitor Center on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park,” the press release reads. “The individual was transported to the rim and transferred to the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office.”
NPS and state officials are still investigating the incident, including the circumstances surrounding this death. A visitor had found Krishna’s black backpack shortly after he’d gone missing and turned it in to park officials.
