Two mountaineers who reached the summit of Mount Everest during a busy week at the world’s tallest mountain have died on their descent. Both men were from India.

Sandeep Are, a resident of Phoenix, Arizona, summited Everest on May 20 and was suffering from impaired vision from snow blindness, according to his climbing partner. On the descent, his health deteriorated, and he died shortly after arriving back down at Camp 2.

The second man, Arun Kumar Tiwari, successfully summited the mountain on May 21. Sadly, he died during the difficult descent. Tiwari’s family told news outlets that they’ve decided not to recover their loved one’s body for reasons related to their personal faith.
