“Not your average day on the road!” wrote CHP Santa Cruz in an Instagram post sharing footage of a loose emu that was disrupting traffic. By the time officials had the animal cornered enough to take a video, however, it was safely away from the road.

“It’s not every day that we get a call about an Emu running in and out of the road in the area of Harper St. at 17th Ave.” wrote CHP Santa Cruz. “Just a couple of days ago, we received numerous calls about an Emu walking into traffic. While we often deal with dogs, cats, deer, and occasionally birds, an Emu was unexpected! Fortunately, the Emu’s owner quickly arrived on the scene, and we managed to safely corral their feathery friend. A big shoutout and thank you to everyone who called in to help us handle this unique situation!”
