According to a survey by YouGov, 9% of Americans believe they could defeat a crocodile by hand. After watching this video of a crocodile vs. a lioness, though, do you think they would accept the challenge?
Wildlife photographer Wayne Nel captured the vicious battle between a Nile crocodile and an African lioness over a piece of zebra meat in South Luangwa, Zambia. He called it “an incredible encounter between a lioness and crocodile. [. . .] The footage is truly epic.”
Neither animal seems particularly concerned about the other as a threat. Their focus is purely on the giant piece of delicious meat. Two large jaws pull at opposite ends of the zebra flesh, neither willing to give up.
The crocodile eventually plays dead (meat in its mouth), and the baffled lioness delicately swats the crocodile’s head in a gesture of surprising cuteness at the end.
It’s not clear who won this game of tug-of-war.
