River Bend Campground Visitor Tips

Favorite thing to do
Take a canoe out on the river and paddle a while. The river provides such beautiful scenery and a great escape while on the water.

Favorite Campsite
Site 61 because it is a wooded waterfront site, I love to hear the frogs at night, and watch the kids fish in the pond. It is close to the pool, the restrooms and the activities at the pavilion.

Camping at River Bend Campground

When was River Bend Campground founded? How did it start?
Although I am not sure of the actual date it was started, the campground has been here nearly 50 years. Previously, it was a chicken farm, one of the coops is still in use here today.

What are the most popular activities in the campground?
It would be impossible to say which activities are most popular. There are those that would say Bingo, others that say it’s the horseshoes, the kids would choose the moon bounce, the crafts, the train or the mining activities. Those with fishing poles would say the river, the canoes, or kayaks, but definitely fishing.

Where is the campground located? What are some other attractions in the area worth checking out?
Our park is located in the “downtown” district of a small town called Oneco in the quiet corner of Connecticut near the border of Rhode Island. We are not too far from the two casinos in Connecticut, one of which also has the amazing Pequot Museum the children would enjoy. There are local artisans in the area including the Hands of Man, specializing in leather, pottery, wood working, jewlery and such. There are farms to pick apples, enjoy a corn maze, there are cider mills, a turkeys farm where you can purchase some yummy ice cream.

Which one of those is your favorite?
I know my grandchildren would probably say the Ekonk Turkey farm is their favorite, my husband would go with the casinos, but my favorite place is right here at the campground!

What are the campsites like? Are they more open or secluded?
Our campsites are both open and wooded, there are only a few secluded sites for tenting.
