Delaware State Police arrested a man for shooting and killing a 39-year-old woman who was walking through a field in Ellendale, Delaware, with her partner and two of her five children. The man, 74-year-old Walter Moorhead, was hunting at the time and believed the woman was a deer. According to a press release from Delaware State Police, the hunter fired from a ground blind.

News outlets have released the woman’s name as Santos Maria Chilel Soto from Georgetown, Delaware. The family was on an evening walk when Moorhead took the shot from his scoped rifle. Soto’s partner called for help after she was struck and tried to stop her bleeding, but she ultimately died from her injuries.
