Mount Dukono, a volcano in Indonesia, erupted, killing at least three people. Several others are still missing, and over a dozen people were safely evacuated. Footage of the event is going viral online.

In the viral video, the person filming the eruption from afar shouts: “Oh, the rocks are coming! Oh, it’s killed them. Oh my god, they died!”

KOMPAS.TV, an Indonesian news outlet, reported the following:
“Mount Dukono in North Halmahera Regency, North Maluku, erupted, spewing volcanic ash as high as 10,000 meters. A joint search and rescue team is still working to evacuate dozens of trapped climbers. The North Halmahera Police Chief confirmed three climbers died. Meanwhile, the Head of the Ternate Search and Rescue Office, North Maluku, Iwan Ramdani, stated that as of Friday afternoon (May 8, 2026), 14 climbers had been evacuated from Mount Dukono, and two were still being searched for.”
