Terrifying Encounter With Bear on Banff Hiking Trail (Viral Video)

A video showing a couple’s terrifying bear encounter on a hiking trail in Banff National Park is going viral. In the footage, the woman filming is walking backwards, making loud noises to try to scare the bear, which is walking on the trail, wanting to pass. A man is in front of her, also walking backwards, and he appears to be carrying bear spray. An dog is between the two hikers (off its leash).

Eventually, the bear goes up off the trail and allows the hikers to change direction and pass by safely.

“Close encounter with a bear that stalked us. Right outside Banff on the Taylor Mtn and O’Brien lake trail. It was terrifying!!” wrote Brook Koski in a Threads post sharing the footage.

UPDATE: Parks Canada has reportedly slammed these hikers with a hefty fine for leaving their dog off leash, which is illegal in Banff National Park.
